Dr. Suryakant Bheda with the help of Government of Gujarat and NRHM, GSDMA and various NGOs working in Kachchh district after the devastating earthquake 2001, did coordination of all agencies, deployed around 200 physiotherapists and 20 occupational therapists for house to house even in the debris and tents and provided physiotherapy, artificial limbs,orthopaedic care n medical care including psychosocial support to all Victims.The Government of India,The World Bank, Asian Development Bank, Hon. President of India,Hon.Prime minister of India, The secretary general of India(Health n FW),CMs of various states of India etc took an appreciative note of his mammoth work.He is still active in Indian Red Cross Society and various NGOs working for rehabilitation of the disabled persons. He managed and implemented permanent paraplegia pension scheme for life for all the paraplegic patients who has sustained spinal cord injury leading to paraplegia.He has organized hundreds of camps for disability certification and management.
